Waterloo Duathlon Race Report
Race morning I got up around 6:30 and I felt really rested and ready to go. I did a warm-up from my house over to the race site which was about a 30min warm-up. When I arrived I met up with my Dad who was also racing and he told me my racing bike was already over on the rack. I had a little trouble with my race wheel, but I got it figured out. Karsten and I had been talking about coming 1st and 2nd in this race for a while now. The 1st run Karsten took it out very hard, where I took it out at a pace where I could also bike fast. I ran the 1st run with Mike Hay who paced it great. we ran the 4km holding 3:17 pace. My goal for this race was to bike at a good effort, which I did and I was very happy with my bike split. I avg. 40.4km/h. I would like to tell you my watts, but I don't use computers on my bike. Going into the run I had about 45sec on 2nd. I ran within myself the 1st 2km and once I hit the turn around I knew I wouldn't be caught. When I was coming into the finish I saw my little niece who is 7 moths old and my Mom handed her to me so I could finish with her. I was very happy to finish with her in my hands. And Karsten and I plan worked. TOP 2 overall. After the race I headed over to Karsten house for a swim and burgers. The pool was 64 degrees I think, but we followed it up by a sauna. I was very happy with how I raced this early in the season and I'm looking forward to my 1st triathlon in 2 weeks. I get to try out my new swimming speed that Jeff has help me get.
